The precious Eri silk is also known as the Ahimsa silk or the Peace silk, originates from the North eastern, Indian states of Meghalaya and Assam.Interestingly, the Eri silk worm is one of its kind, that creates a cocoon open at one end, enabling the moth to emerge peacefully thus making it kind, peaceful,vegan and a sacred silk.

Apart from silk, the eri pupae are used as a high source of protein in the local cuisine. Cocoons not fit for silk thread are used to make silk paper,
