About Indiespiral
Hello!
Indiespiral is the heart and soul of textile artist Gurpreet Pannu, who believes in a kind and conscious planet. With almost three decades of passionately working with the grassroots artisans pan India, she has been a part of the artisans' journey with a main aim of "revive and thrive" by contemporarising the motifs and styles, while still rooted to the local techniques and beliefs. On this differently organised, yet fulfilling journey, she mastered the craft and made bonds for a lifetime. In 2018, Gurpreet formalised this journey as Indiespiral - An ancient spiral from India that represents the winding journey inwards; A journey of love and balanced growth; A journey from which one returns with more power.
At Our Studio
A calm, creative vibe flows through the studio as we work through each scarf with patience and care. The Indiespiral scarves are made using the luxurious Eri silk (Ahimsa/peace silk ), mulberry silk, and Linen, procured from the finest weavers of Assam. A batch of 20 meters is hand-woven in a twill weave, resulting in a soft, deep, rich fabric.
Each scarf is tied/stitched/clamped on predetermined areas and piece dyed. The colour palette is achieved by nature's chemistry. Indigo, pomegranate rinds, madder roots, sappanwood, Himalayan rhubarb, catechu, onion skins, marigold, and turmeric all come alive with mordants and metals.
Nature's imprints can be seen on eco-printed Eri Silk scarves, where seasonal leaves and flowers dance harmoniously.
Apart from the colourful eco prints, these leaves and flowers also bring along the healing medicinal properties on the silk scarves, keeping the skin happy :)and of course each scarf is a single piece!
It is now that the beautiful motifs come together to tell tales, and bless the wearer with plenty, prosperity, good luck, and longevity. Finished on the edges (hand rolled / machine stitched ), checked, rechecked, and is ready to be shipped in a tree-free, acid-free paper box. This reaches you safely in a compostable courier bag.
We believe that nature heals all; our mind, body & soul. So do our Eco-Printed, Plant-Dyed Eri Silk and Linen scarves.
