Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 123 episode of Mann ki Baat lauded the traditional Eri silk of Meghalaya, stating the non violent procedures to make eri silk yarn. The Khasi tribes of Meghalaya have preserved it for generations. North eastern states of Assam and Meghalaya are home to the eri silk moth (Samia cynthia ricini). Organisations and co- operatives in the region work hand in hand with the locals creating a healthy circular economy.
